Bottle Of Sound News: January 2011

Hi there!

We hope you'll enjoy our new record, “Bottle Of Sound 2”.

We worked on this album for the better part of the past 2 years. Like “Sodapop Cookbook”, it was recorded first in Josh's basement (The Kuba Shack), and then at Ken's studio in Santa Cruz. Michael did his keyboards, piano, accordion, etc, at his studio down in Royal Oaks. My sister, Bonnie Bewick, took time off from her regular Boston Symphony gig to help us out on these songs. Our old friend and bandmate, JD Spalding, also joined us.

JD, (or “John” as we call him sometimes) played with Josh and I in Los Angeles for many years. John's songs have influenced my own writing big time. I'll see if I can get some of his music up on this site, so you can hear what I'm talking about. He's a great, great musician. Fortunately, we were able to kidnap John last year and bring him to Santa Cruz for a few days. During that time, we recorded a dozen tracks or so at Michael's studio, and did some more recording at my studio (read: condo) in Santa Cruz. On “Bottle Of Sound 2”, you'll hear John singing the wierd lead vocal on “Sugar Smells Sweet”, as well as ukulele on “Rest Upon The Table”.

We recorded many, many more songs for the project than appear on the record. Some of them didn't fit stylistically, and some weren't quite “up to snuff”, as they say. Some of them are coming along quite nicely, but haven't been finished yet. We'll most likely revisit these songs in months to come, as we begin work on our next record.

In the meantime, we've posted some of these bonus tracks here on our website. If you know of anyone who may be interested in hearing Bottle Of Sound, please pass along our website info. We'd love to hear from you, in any way, shape, or form, in the coming months.

The new album, as well as our other offerings, are available at I-Tunes, Amazon, Napster, etc, etc, etc. If you like it, please take a moment to tweet or like using the handy links below. That would be great!

Thank you for listening to our music.
